Chicago Field Trip Experience

The location that I was to go to was UIC and Mario’s Italian Ice Stand. When my group and I made it down to Mario’s we were sad to see that the stand was closed for the season and would not be opened until May. Although it was closed, we decided to explore the area around the stand, which was Little Italy. During our visit in the area we went to a Thai restaurant and experienced the various cultures that are a part of the Chicago land area. It was interesting to see a Thai restaurant located within Little Italy, but it was great to see a variety of cultures mixed in with one another.

While down in the area, my group and I decided to cut through UIC’s campus. It was interesting to see the differences between UIC, which is a public school, to Elmhurst, which is a private school. It was a great atmosphere and once classes were let out it was great to see the hustle and bustle of students going from class to class. It was a lot larger than I had originally thought, and I had only seen part of the campus this time around. But again it was nice to see a different type of college experience because all of the schools that I looked into were smaller and private, whereas UIC is larger and public. It allowed me to see a different side of college life and I really enjoyed that. Plus there were a large variety of cultures and backgrounds in the area. While walking around, my group and I saw many people from Asian backgrounds and many people from the African American background, which I find fantastic that there is a wide variety of people in the area. This just adds to the uniqueness of the location and adds to the various cultures of the Chicago land area.

It sounds like you observed a lot during your visit. School size and type certainly make a big difference! Just imagine trying to park at UIC!
